Episode One

S1 E1: Skydiving From 18,000 Feet in Hawaii

Fear looks different when you’re standing in the doorway of an airplane at 18,000 feet.

For the very first episode of I’m Brendan and This Scares Me, I traveled to Hawaii with my family and faced one of my biggest fears: jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

As a firefighter, veteran, and father, I’ve spent years responding to emergencies and helping other people through their worst moments. But this series isn’t about the fears life forces on us. It’s about the fears we choose to face.

In Episode One, I take a tandem skydive from 18,000 feet above Oahu, Hawaii. From the sleepless anticipation the night before, to the nerves on the ride to the drop zone, to standing at the open door of the aircraft, this documentary captures every emotion that comes with doing something that truly scares you.

What surprised me most wasn’t the jump itself. It was what happened afterward.

This episode is about more than skydiving. It’s about proving to yourself that fear doesn’t get the final vote. It’s about showing my kids that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s taking the leap anyway.

Fear is temporary. Stories last forever.
